Who Am I?

How will I investigate my Self to know who I am? The Who Am I? course is a journey into your Self, your beliefs, origins, fears, and hopes—pursued through philosophical discussions, self-reflections, historical investigations, and diverse field experiences. Specifically, the course challenges your perceptions of Truth, Memory, Doubt, and Belief.

What do my truths say about who I am?

In this Unit you will investigate a philosophical & a detective text to define “truth”, interview someone whose truth is different from yours and, finally, demonstrate your learning by writing and recording an essay about what you believe. Unit Sub Guiding Questions:

  • What is truth?
  • Is truth negotiable?
  • What is my truth? What do I believe?

What do my memories say about who I am?

In this Unit you will investigate a psychological text to define “individual & collective memory”, interview a person at least 2 generations older than you and, finally, become a “time-machine” to tell a story that transports people to another time & place through different senses. Unit Sub Guiding Questions:

  • What is memory?
  • How much of my Self is made of others’ memories?
  • How does memory allow for time-travelling?

What do my doubts say about who I am?

This Unit you will investigate a philosophical and a poetic text to define “doubt”, deconstruct the mechanics of creating questions, interview a religious leader who works with the doubts of others and , finally, create your own guiding question to share with the GCE community in an interactive way. Unit Sub Guiding Questions:

  • What is doubt? What is a question? How to write a question?
  • How may someone help others in doubt?
  • What is your guiding question & how may others help you pursue it?

What do my dreams say about who I am?

In this Unit you will investigate a psychological and a poetic text to define “dream”, deconstruct the mechanics of metaphors, interview a person who works with dreams and, finally, create a dream-catcher as a way to analyze & share one of your dreams. Unit Sub Guiding Questions:

  • What is a dream? What is a metaphor?
  • How may we find meanings in dreams?
  • What is one dream you caught to investigate and share with others?
